Government announcement about primary schools opening for more pupils

Dear parents and carers,

Government announcement about primary schools opening for more pupils

I hope you and your family are well during this prolonged period of uncertainty.

I am writing to you today about the latest announcement from the Government.

As you may know, the Academy is now open for the children of key workers, other children who are eligible for other reasons, and the children in nursery, Reception, Year 1 and Year 6.  This week the Education Secretary, Gavin Williamson MP, has said that school leaders may invite back additional children if, having invited the pupils listed above, we have space and capacity to do so within the existing safety guidelines.

We currently have a range of protective measures in place at the Academy to ensure the safety of the children attending, their parents during pick-up and drop-off, and our staff.  These measures (like ensuring social distancing) means that we have considerably less space than we do when we are open as normal.

We will be looking at further advice from the Government this week, and working in partnership with Oasis Community Learning to explore what is best at Oasis Academy Boulton.  We will need to carefully consider if we can safely welcome back more pupils, and if so, how and when.

Throughout the Coronavirus outbreak, my team and I have been eager to welcome the pupils as soon as it is safe to do so.  While of course these announcements suggest that we are moving closer to the day when we can all be back together, we need to ensure that everyone’s safety is our first priority.

I will be back in touch next week with further updates on our next steps.

Yours sincerely,

Principal of Oasis Academy Mrs Shilpa Rathore.
