A strong nurturing ethos as Oasis Academy Boulton gains a Wellbeing Verification Award

It’s a time to celebrate as we have been awarded with a wellbeing verification for completing a number of objectives to show commitment to emotional wellbeing and mental health in pupils and staff.

Oasis Academy Boulton, situated in Handsworth, Birmingham have worked on eight different objectives in the last twelve months for them to be awarded with a wellbeing verification. The objectives span from showing a clear vision that underpins the development of the award, demonstrating the huge amount of awareness and training that has taken place, and showing evidence of the commitment to staff development and ongoing CPD.

In the verification report it highlighted;

  • “The Principal has a clear vision and obvious passion for the development of the academy as a safe haven for children and families, recognising the importance of emotional wellbeing and positive mental health to learning.”
  • “A tour of the school showed positive, respectful interactions across the academy community.”
  • “The learning environment is bright and vibrant, with displays in every classroom and many shared areas.”
  • “Physical fitness is prioritised. The academy has invested in both indoor and outdoor gyms for students, staff and the community.”

Shilpa Rathore, Principal of Oasis Academy Boulton, commented on the verification, saying; “This award has helped the whole academy and its community focus in detail around mental health. The profile has risen across the academy and staff are more aware of the signs and different forms of mental health. This has impacted on the number of interventions in place and barriers broken down for our children.”

“It has been a positive experience with fantastic support from everyone and we are delighted at achieving this award and realising that we are doing so much to tackle the issues around mental health.”

“A huge thank you Mrs. Vadukul and Miss. Whorrie for leading this. The parents, children, staff and academy councillors for their contributions towards the award.”

This news comes weeks after Academy received an overwhelmingly positive Ofsted report declaring the Early Years Provision as “Outstanding” and all other areas of the Academy as “Good”.

Since starting the objectives, the Academy has already seen a massive impact, including relationships with parents and carers are more positive as parents have a better understanding of how the Academy supports their children’s wellbeing.

Paul Tarry, Regional Director for the Midlands, at Oasis Community Learning, added; “This is an amazing milestone for Oasis Academy Boulton, and reflects clearly the dedication of Shilpa and her team. This is a highly inclusive Academy where every pupil is supported to do their very best.”
