Sport Premium Funding

What is the Sports Premium?

In April 2013 the Government announced new funding of £150 million for Physical Education (PE) and sport. This funding should be used to improve the quality and breadth of PE and Sport provision. Schools are free to determine how best to use this funding to improve the quality and breadth of PE and Sport provision, including increasing participation in PE and Sport so that all pupils develop healthy lifestyles and reach the performance levels they are capable of.

As of 2017-18, the sport Premium has doubled and Schools with 17 or more eligible pupils receive £16,000 and an additional payment of £10 per pupil.

PE and Sport at Oasis Academy Boulton

Our PE curriculum is designed to ensure that children are empowered to master the foundation skills within movement and physical activity. We will create physically literate children who develop a love of physical activity and embrace healthy lifestyles.

In our curriculum, Physical Education is far more than sport alone. Through our primary focus on developing a depth of physical competency, physical education will embody the reflection of “Who am I and Who am I becoming”. We will create children who understand the values of teamwork and sportsmanship, children who articulate the value of being physically active in our modern society and children who understand that being physically active is more than just playing sport but is a positive lifestyle decision.

The students of Oasis Academy Boulton participate in our planned physical education lessons each week. All of our PE lessons are delivered by our internal PE practitioners and sports specialist teachers and is supported by specific sports coaches where required. Within our programme we offer Football, Multi-Sports, Netball, Tennis, Cricket, Swimming, Athletics and Rounders, as part of our curriculum. Children are also offered a wide range of extra-curricular activities, which allows them to continue their development in their chosen activities.

Our local school sports partnership (Handsworth Association of Schools and Hamstead Hall Academy) organises a program of events throughout the year.

Through our PE curriculum and extra-curricular program children are offered the opportunity to represent the Academy in a number of local inter-school competitions organised by our Schools Sports Partnership. We also encourage those children who are identified as being gifted and talented to participate at a higher level.

Throughout the year we organise mass participating events such as Sports Day and sponsored walks and similar activities.

We engage with outside agencies to enable children to access sports that they may not normally experience such as Dance, Boxing and Gymnastics. Children also have the opportunity to work with local professional sports clubs including the Warwickshire County Cricket Club where we offer summer camps to all children. We actively encourage pupils to extend their sporting skills by directing them to our local sporting clubs through whole group sessions and talent spotting.
